about

The best part of my Thanksgiving Day over the past several years (because I didn't grow up with this practice) has been gathering as God's people at First CRC to worship and give thanks to God. Its also a little different of a service, with more congregational participation and creativity.

This year, our pastor preached from Psalm 111 which in the original language, formed an acrostic from the Hebrew alphabet. Throughout the month of November, the congregation was encouraged to creatively write their own acrostics to give thanks. Since I'm the "music guy" I thought I would attempt to write a song to give thanks. I also, thought I would do my best to stay close to the words and themes found within Psalm 111. The acrostic I chose to spell out was also a phrase from the Psalm and the theme of our whole service. "Great Are the Works of the LORD!"

I am beyond grateful to be a part of such an awesome group of God's people and serve at such a great church. I love my church family for so many reasons.

lyrics

Great Are the Works of the LORD! (Psalm 111)

Great are the works of the LORD!
Remembered by those who adore Him.
Enduring forevermore;
All of His ways can be trusted.
They are established forever and ever!

All Your ways are full of splendor; Your
Righteousness endures forever. In
Everything, my heart will thank the LORD!

The LORD is good and full of mercy,
He satisfies with food for the hungry;
Eternally, He remembers His covenant.

Worship in fear of the LORD!
Offering praises unending,
Remember His steadfast love,
Kneel to the One who is holy.
Serve Him with wisdom and understanding.

Only He could work salvation,
Fulfilling all the price of redemption.

The works of His hands
He alone can command, are
Eternally faithful and just!

Lift up your praise to the LORD!
Offer your lives to His glory.
Redemption has come from His hand,
Declaring that we are His people.

Jesus, you reign evermore!
Eternally loved by the Father. Your
Spirit poured out on your church.
Ushering in your Kingdom. Your
Servants are grateful for every work you’ve done!
